“Terrible dullness”

Yawn. Yes, I think we agree with campaign manager Frank Stauss, who thinks our election campaigns are terribly boring compared to campaigns in other countries, notably the U.S. (http://www.dw.de/terrible-dullness-in-german-election-campaign/a-17073772). The Guardian, however, spreads this campaign video by the IG Metall to show that we Germans have a funny side, after all. We’re not convinced, but decide for yourselves: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/video/2013/sep/05/germany-election-ad-viral-video

Stefan Kornelius of Süddeutsche Zeitung currently blogs for the Guardian and manages to come up with interesting facts about Merkel, which are probably as new to many German voters as they are to the British public: Plum cake and a personal feud with Putin? Did you know this? http://www.theguardian.com/world/german-elections-blog-2013/2013/sep/10/angela-merkel-origins-germany-election

Moreover, the Guardian seems to have a bit of fun with our coalition system: Here’s to tiger ducks and pizzas: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/04/german-elections-coalitions-colours

And yes, our elections may be boring, but at least tumblr users have discovered Angela Merkel’s many faces, check out http://merkelscutefaces.tumblr.com/ or the notorious Merkelraute: http://merkelraute.tumblr.com/
